The Macintosh game market was slightly improved with the arrival of Mac OS X and its newly found stability. It finally had substantial growth with the controversial architectural change from PowerPC to Intel, but it's still lacking. Now that the App Store has proven that gaming can be Apple's forte, they soon realised that maybe you can make money off these newfangled video game thingies.

In 2012, Mac OS X was rebranded to just OS X. Annoyingly, Apple changed the short-hand name again to simply be macOS in 2016, changing their version naming convention from big cats to places in California.
